Once again, I find myself following a thread with amusement. Do my VWs have feelings? I don't really know. But I do know that they ('68 bug, '77 ASI Riviera, and '83.5 "wasserleaker") all get treated as if they do. As a result, I have never been stranded in any of them. As far as Toyota reliability: If you want that famed reliability, just get out your torch, wire welder and your fabricating skills and drop a Toyota engine into it. It's been done before... http://204.189.12.10/b/roadcow/ Probably easier with a Vanagon in that it's already got a radiator.

Oh, BTW one must take into account the $ factor. I have less than $5000 invested in all my VWs. There isn't any new car available for even twice that amount. Factor in insurance for all three, and I'm still money ahead.

Drive what you want, care for it as you will and as the late John Muir said, "Look kindly upon your ass, for it bears you."
