I passed a Vanagon for sale at a local lot the other day and just had to stop
and check it out.  '85 GL with only 35k miles!  Gold exterior with some seam
rust starting and a bump of the rear passenger side corner.  But two things
make this van special.
1.  The interior
This van had some wierd American conversion done to its interior.  The two
front seats were captians chairs but they were the overstuffed kind you see in
US conversion vans.  The rear seat and middle seat were also overstuffed.  The
rear seat turned into a bed and all of the interior panels as well as the
headliner had been replaced by puffy looking material.  Each seat had a map
light over it and there were a couple of 12v outlets near the rear and middle
seats.  But here is the strangest part.  The middle seat had a hinged back.
This allowed you to move the back of the seat so that you could sit facing the
rear of the van or you could sit facing the front of the van ( I actually
thought that idea was cool).
2.  The Price.  How much would you pay?  They were asking $5500!  I thought
this van was way overpriced even for the low mileage (which could be false).
So there you have it.  Has anyone else seen a van with this conversion package
on it?  I looked but didn't see any stickers or outer markings that indicated
a conversion company (like Mark III or Choo Choo Customs).
Don't stay up too late at night wondering about this one.
