I drove Kennedy's Engineering Subaru Vanagon last year. It was fun to drive with plenty of guts(even for an automatic). As to shops that are doing the conversion, I haven't found one yet. The biggest problem I see is getting a "good" Subaru unit from a junkyard. My experience with most wrecking yard has not been good. You can go to one of those Japanese engine import places and get a good used Subaru engine, but it will lack all of the extra goodies(computer, wiring, etc.) that you need to do a successful engine swap.
