ok, for engine and suspension and body parts, there are no differences.
same 2.1 liter water-cooled horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine. same
choices of transmissions: 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic or 5-speed
Syncro package (which comes with minor body changes: fuel filler is moved
to the rear right corner; extra weight from additional 4wd mechanical parts
and some reinforcement brackets/shields/etc. underneath).
so, "mechanically", they're very much the same.
it's in the Camper equipment and Options (power windows, power door locks,
and so forth) that any differences will be found ...
(from the VW Sales Brochures ... and we all know how accurate Sales Brochures
are, right?? :) ...
