Hello Folks I was stuck in very slow moving traffic yesterday (99 degrees). As the temp gauage began to rise I wondered what happens to to other vanagons and where the temp gauge normally runs. I do not know what temp thermostat is in my 1986 van. Normally it runs some where around the red led, usually just covering it. Slightly above the led if it is really hot and I am cruising about 60 to 65 mph. When I am going that fast and then slow to become a member of our nightly traffic jam, the gauge will rise to 1/2 way between led and the white line at the top of the gauge. I have a Jetta that is much is affected by speed and ambient temp much less than my van. The readins from the temp gauge were sinificantly higher than those above until I cleaned the AC condenser and the radiator. Also I canot ever remember hearing the fan come on to cool the radiator. I will have t monitor temp and listen tonight when I get home from work. BTW does anyone know where the fan resistor is located? I recall seeing it somewhere near the radiator on my old van but I dont see it on this one. I have a 1986 GL with air Thanks all PaulC KB1RP |
