If they were that hot you may have glazed the shoes and drum. Basically "polishing" them to a very smooth (and thus non braking) surface. Depending on how the brake lining is attatched to the shoes (rivits or advheasive) you may have the lining separating from the shoe. If so, the only cure I know for it is new brake shoes and some slight turning or perhaps sanding of the drums.
