We made it back from the Boulder trip yesterday without any unplanned adventures. 1700 miles round trip, & averaged 22.02 MPG with a corrected odometer, driving 55-65. The only thing that broke was one of those nifty cupholders. Temperatures were high. Sunday through Wednesday it was 95-102 in Eastern Colorado & Nebraska. I really should get the air fixed. We had no overheating problems whatsoever. The van is an '86 multivan with a manual transmission. I watched especially for vehicles that had broken down, due to a recent thread, and can report that what I saw most often was GM vehicles. I saw one poor Astro van pull over in front of us and make a large puddle under it quickly. I did see one beetle by the side, and a Scirocco. Neither of these was "shiny". Boulder was interesting for the great number of busses & Vanagons. Lots more Synchro's than Iowa. It's good to be back, but wow, what a lot of Vanagon list mail to catch up on! Chuck Hill |
