Did you check you coolant level?  If it was boiling you must have lost
some.  You did not say the needle was way high, so lack of coolant may
have turned the light on.

Next, let it cool, remove reservoir cap.  Blow into little outlet, sud
make a kazoo noise.  Now suck, sud not get any flow.  Replace cap and
coolant if necessary.

Driving in this Texas heat has me concerned too, but I'll post that
separately...
