Another listmember (Gary) traveling through ND has a problem with his 86 Syncro and could use our help.

While traveling yesterday he noticed all his gauges going out (i.e., fuel, temp). He turned off his air conditioning and the gauges came back on. He noticed a funny burning odor coming from the engine compartment. Could not find what it was, however, the distributor looked a little burnt inside. He replaced the cap and rotor. Started it back up and took off and noticed the oys and alternator lights were coming on and off at the same time, in sync. His headlights were very dim also. Sounds like he is running off the battery, right. He is currently checking/replacing the alternator. But, I wonder, why was the oxy sensor light coming on at the same time as the alternator? And what was that burning? Is he having multiple problems? He has to travel through nothingness--Between Bismark, ND to Billings, MT, and any insight from the list would be extremely helpful.

Hopefully, it's going to be the alternator only. He is going to purchase an oxy. sensor also.

Thanks Bill '85 GL [*Magic*Bus*] Big Sky Country <><
