Subject: roof vent control arm help

Would some one who has a stock roof vent please tell me if the control arms sholed go in to the guide on the skylight from the front side of the van or from the back side of the van? I can no longer remember. I'm attempting to fit an aftermarket skylight on my van to replace the original one and it doesn't seem to operate properly no matter which way I try, but I may be inclined to fix the problem if I knew which direction to fix it too. My memory tells me it's from the front, but... TIA, much TIA David, 91 Multi
