Steve,

If you are going by way of Campobello Island and St. John NB I have a few suggestions.

On Deer Island there is a nice looking campground stuck on a point of land in Passamaquoddy Bay adjacent to the Campobello Island ferry landing. The ferry rides on and off of Deer Island are short and great fun for the kids and as far as I know no fee. I have not stayed here, but it is very scenic and small. I have some literature somewhere...........

On Campobello Island I have stayed at Herring Cove Park. Has a beach (COLD) and playground. Otherwise did not stand out in my mind. Awesome seafood takeout place with picnic tables on the left about halfway out the road to the lighthouse at Quoddy Point. Some of the highest tides anywhere at the lighthouse. You can actually see them come in/out.

About 18 miles south of St. John, NB (and the ferry to Digby, NS) is Herring Cove Park. I have stayed here twice. Some ocean view, some wooded sites. Nice snack bar with picnic tables overlooking the water. Beach for wading. Not sure about playground. Wake up and watch the fisherman reel in their nets in the cove. Beautiful spot. You can get some awesome smoked salmon products around the corner at New River Smokers, a home run business. Just south of here (10 miles?) on Route 1 on the right is a blueberry farm stand with wonderful homemade blueberry treats including whole pies for $4.00 CDN.

By the way, I'll be doing a week's bicycle tour of southern Nova Scotia Aug 9-15. So if you, or any other listmembers, happen to see a tall, ponytailed, cyclist on a red Hollands frame pounding the pavement in Nova Scotia that week, wave or flag me down to say hi and perhaps share a cup of java!

Have a great trip!

Tony
