Subject: unplugged idle stab valve

Volks, I have the idle stuck at 4500 RPM problem on an '86 Westy. I have been running the van for quite a while with the valve unplugged. I have traced the problem to a fried component of the idle stab control unit. I am about to pull it again to replace the burned component. I would think that with the idle stab valve unplugged it won't be a problem to drive the van with the control unit on the workbench. Is there some other function the control unit performs? Is it OK to drive the van with the control unit pulled out? Thanks Dan
