Subject: '73 tranny trashed?
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I just pulled the engine on my '73 westy -- somehow the tranny main shaft pulled out with it. Not all the way, of course, but it now comes out about 6-8 inches from where it should be, and no longer connects to anything inside. I'm assuming it's trashed, but just in case -- is there a quick cure? Has anyone here tried putting a 091 tranny in the earlier buses? I've read it's possible, but the shift linkage sure isn't the same -- do you have to fabricate the mounts? Reason I'm asking is that the engine in mine is a '81 2.0L, and I can get a 091 tranny from the same source I got the engine. Please reply directly as I read the list from the archives. thanx.
