Ugh, still frustrated and looking for a solution. Here is a run down of what I've done to figure out why my '86 runs like crap and dies out after it warms up but runs really well for about 30 sec. after switching the key off and restarting:

1. CHecked mass air flow sensor and thermostat in that housing. All check out accoring to Bently.

2. Unhooked above sensor unit and van ran ok on restart but not much better (just didn't stall out as quick).

3. Looked over O2 sensor, all connections appear nice, clean, even new and unbroken. Connection LOOK okay.

4. Unhooked coolant temp sensor (#II, the blue one) and engine ran better in terms of not dying (it would idle all day) but would respond well to throttle, especially under slight load (up very slight hill).

5. CHecked sensor as per Bently and its resistance was OK and changed as temp changed.

6. Grounded and bridged connector that goes to the above sensor. WHen I gounded it it idled much more quickly, when I bridged it to the other contact it ran more quickly and then started to choke. Sooo, I assume that wire (back to the ECU and such) is ok.

WHAT NOW??? I guess I need to check the O2 sensor as per Bently but I have a hunch it is going to be fine. WOuld bad gas goof up something? A mechanic suggested fuel pressure. I'm stumped. I do have an '84 injection system, is the brain (ECU) the same as my '86 and could I swap to see if that is it? I really hope it isn't. I had the engine almost totally undone to remove the tranny, I think I got all the grounds but is there something I could check along those lines? UGH! HELP.!

THanks, Eric
