Subject: ?! WHY VW FIRES !?
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=x-user-defined

Dear VW owners Thank you for this excellent info system (esp. you webmaster :) Having recently purchased my 13th vw ('80 westy) after a 23 year VW hiatus; I am amazed at all the VW fires posted here! Why the fires? We can't say the fires are due to VW design flaws; or can we? Most of the VW fires posted here seem to be mysterious in nature. No reports as to why the fire started, just that "...my van caught on fire." or "...saw a van on fire." WUTZ-UP? My 2 VW fire experiences were both my fault; I left the air cleaner off a misbehaving VW carb, and another when the coil wire smoked after being directly hooked to the battery. Again I ask WUTZ-UP with all the VW fires? Are the fires gas / oil or electrical in nature? Are they due to design flaws, negligence, maintenance, lack of cleanliness, laziness or what? Any and all insight to these mysterious VW fires is appreciated. Thank you again for this information sharing system. Zymorg '80 Westy
