Why did you do this? I am assuming that this is digijet or digifant in you Vanagon. Both of these systems work fine from the factory. The ECU wants to control when the coil should spark and it does a fine job at it too! On older systems like digijet and CIS there is a hall sender in the distributor which is responcible for when the coil fires. If you don't have a hall sender (i.e. points) then it is worth while to get a fancy ignition system.

Another word of warning. Do not use a high energy coil on a non-points system as damager could occur to the hall sender.
