Marcus, My compressor will be pretty hot (almost can't touch it), but not just after 2 minutes. IMHO, may be you don't have enough refrigerate oil in your compressor. I remember it takes 54oz. of oil just for compressor only. It's a lot! VW replaced a new compressor for me back to 89 under warranty. But when I dumped the old oil from my compressor 3 years ago, it was only 10fl.oz. left. I believe either the VW dealer did not put enough oil in there at beginning or even worse, I suspect the mechanic did not put in any additional oil at all.... I think that's why my freon can only last 2 years after they put a new compressor in. Since I put 54 oz + more (to compensate the oil lost from condenser (need 40 additional oz???) and Bentley doesn't say how much oil needed for evaporator) of oil 3 years ago with all the new o-rings, the freon leaks apparently slows down a lot. I haven't added any R-12 yet. BTW, I bought 10 cans of R-12 for $6/per can 3 years ago. I put 4.5 cans (spec for 52 oz) at that time and still have 5 cans left for touch up.... Remember the days the R-12 sells for 99 cents and it's a 16oz can!!!!! Blame it on EPA. Do you know the US is the ONLY country can not use R-12??? And I heard that some scientists now saying R-12 may not be a major source to damage our precious ozone layer. Go figure...
