If you want to compare fuel milage you have to have everyone under the same conditions. Your fuel milage is based on your tire size/diameter or better yet load radius of the front left tire. Load radius means: inflated tire, under load, measured from the pavement to the center of the wheel/axle. (please correct me if I am wrong) The VDO mile counter (speedometer) in your car is calibrated for a specific load radius. Here's a simple test to see how far off your speedometer/mile counter is. On a stretch of highway reset your trip mile counter to zero as you are passing a mile marker, drive exactly 10 mile markers and compare to your trip mile marker on your dash board. If it also shows exactly 10 miles than your calculations of MPG are accurate, if not you need to take the difference of the two into your calculations. Need more information there's a great book titled "How To Get More Miles Per Gallon" sorry forgot the authors name it was something like Sekorsky. Hope this will help a little
