Pre-cooked food can come in handy. We use a food dehydrator and a seal-a-meal with boil-in bags; but this set-up tore up a $500 bill. The dehydrator you can substitute by using your oven on low temp (esp. for making jerky), and microwavable 'zip-lok' type bags are good storage mediums. A good backpacker knows premixing dried foods, trail snacks, etc. saves space and time. Also don't overlook the rice and pasta dishes, off the grocers shelf, which require little more then boiling water. Remember proper hygiene in the food preparation and keep foodstuff out of the light and cool if possible. Longer shelf life requires a good vacuum machine and thick plastic bags; and a little know how. Good luck. Bon apatito
