Subject: features on the lesser westy?

For my second attempt at owning a vanagon, I'm eyeing this nicely redone '80 westy. It has the package that I think was known at the "basic" camper. Anyone familiar with this?

The "fridge" is really more of a cooler from what I understand--it doesn't produce any cold of its own. Does anyone have any experiences with these? What's the best way to cool stuff in it? How long can I expect to keep stuff cold and how cold will that be?

Mine also has a vestigial little seat that faces sideways between the "sleeper sofa" and the fidge/sink. Under this seat is a little storage space accessed from the top by removing the seat cushion. I thought this might be a nice place to store a porta-potty (which according to the catalog is 14" diameter by 14" high). I forgot to measure this opening when I was looking over the van, doing that "do I want to buy it or not" thing. Anyone know if that's a good porta-potty place? If not any suggestions?

thanks, mac
