Subject: Eng Temp Fine, But Warning Light Flashing ???
Comments: To: vanagon@VANAGON.COM

The Problem: ------------ On the way back from a 200 mile trip, the coolant temp. warning light began to flash, although the temp gauge indicated perfectly normal operating temperatures and the Vanagon ran just fine.

Some clues: ----------- Immediately before this happened, I had parked on a shoulder such that the van "leaned" very steeply to the side (perhaps 10 degrees or more). Before this the van had been running very cooly (we were in the mountains early in the morning).

During this entire day the cooling system seemed to function perfectly normally, even while stopped in traffic in the heat (100 deg F/40 deg C) of the afternoon with the A/C on or off.

This Vanagon has been well maintained since new (incl. a complete new cooling system about 1 year ago), and was pronounced mechanically VERY healthy by a local VW expert (The Zeppelin Works, Chico, California) only 4 days ago! During this trip I averaged around 19-20 mpg (which is typical for my Westfalia fully loaded). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, opinions...chicken entrail examination reports?...

[shrugging]
