Hi,

with the 4x4 version of the Golf ' 98 VW issued a new name for their 4WD technology.

It s called >>4motion<< now - which sounds like a poor copy of Mercedes' >>4matic<<.

Anyway, the new sytem is available with the the AUDI A3 just like the new AUDI TT roadster or coupe and the new Golf at the moment in Europe.

For the Passat they use the AUDI quattro system now but it is still called syncro. Everything clear now as far as names are concerned ???????

There is no viscous coupling any longer but an electronically controlled coupling system which employs the rear wheels for traction after a 45° free turn of the front wheels. The name of the system is HALDEX and it has been developed by a swedish supplier and adopted for the Golf by

Hope to have some description at

**soon**

Bye Tom N.
