Michael, Be aware that NOT all 86/87 Vanagon/Syncro will turn on the OXS light for every 60K miles. Mine will turn on the light at each 30K interval even though the manual said the maintenance interval for oxygen sensor is 60K (I guess VW mistakenly put Golf/Jetta's OXS counter box on some Vanagon's). VW gave me a memo which said ignore the OXS light at 30K/90K etc., just reset the counter box. I did ask them to replace a 60K counter box but they refused. All 88 and newer have 90K miles maintenance interval. I believe the best bet is to look at the odometer readings (if it still works!).

Please respond to Modl6971@AOL.COM To: Vanagon@VANAGON.COM cc: Subject: Re: OXS idiot light, Brian ... Brian, don't worry about that light. It's only there to remind you to have the O2 sensor opperation checked out. That light after it's reset, comes on every 60k. If your O2 sensor has 60K on it, then it's time to replace it. After it's replaced, have the light reset. Please have it done by a pro, VW specialist if possible. That OXS light is wired to your speedo counter-box, wich after 60K , turns on the light. So don't worry about the light. Just get it done at your convenience. Michael Modl 87 syncro 87 quattro
