Any intelligent person can see that the Westfalia is a van with a tent on
top. Of course intelligent does not necessarily include park service
employees who are only trying to do what their supervisors tell them for
fear of loosing their job. Nor does intelligent include anyone with a 'bone
to chew', i.e. trying to impose some kind of purist mission on others.
Often, your own attitude creates the response from the park service
employee. I have never been turned away from a 'tents only' camp site while
driving my Westy!!

However, I do agree that the large Motor Homes are an unsightly large hunk
of metal in the forest. (not to mention obnoxious generators, etc.). I
certainly don't want to camp next to them. But if they allow a person with
a van to drive into a tent only sight and pitch a tent 20 feet away from
their van, why not allow a tent pitched on top of a van?? In fact, I just
came back from a camping trip and saw a tent pitched in the back of a
pick-up truck... is that allowed or not??  .... Bill Davidson
