My thanks to al who have replied to my request for a standard stick 4speed
tranny.


Turns out that the pilot bearing was gone - kaput! - flywheel damaged,
clutch housing full of hypoid oil, clutch disc soaked, tranny input shaft
bearing and seal, damaged,as well as the shaft itself. Don't know what else
yet.


After a lot of discussion, I have opted to just go for a rebuilt tranny.
Have found local independent VW mechanic who seems knowlegable and reliable.


Will keep the list posted on this project.
