Mark Drillock wants to know:

<< Can anyone tell me if moving the ring and pinion set from one trans to another is a job that I can do myself? >>

Well, that depends on your mechanical skill level. It will require a few fairly specialized tools- nothing too complicated but they are required. You will need to recheck the pinion backlash and depth setting on the ring gear. And the diff bearing preload will also need to be checked and adjusted if required. There are also some other procedures involved but those are the major ones. While you don't have to be a 30-year journey-level master mechanic to do this it isn't a job for the average weekend warrior either. Only you will know if you have the skill level required or not.

Good luck!
