<< The problems started at 33,000 miles. the rear (good news... it has two) O2 sensor went out. the emissions warrenty covers the sensor for 2yr/24,000miles. I complained and the dealer paid labor and VW paid for the part. However, this part should have lasted for 90,000+ miles. Total cost of repair was $500. >> Hey Chris, just thought that you should know that an O2 sensors last gernerally around 30k to 60k. Ever since OBD 2 came out, wich is required on all new cars since 1996 to have the "On Board Diagnostics" capabilities, every little glitch, wether it's in the fuel injection or the emissions, it will be caught and recorded by the engine computer. This is a big plus in engine longevity. It will always be running perfect and will last. Not like the older cars were if the O2 sensor went out for a moment, the car ran bad, and then you bring it to your tech to check it out, and off-course the tech cant duplicate it or find a problem. The probem then occures again at a later date, but is worse, and then it's too late because now the CAT converter has melted down and the engine is loosing power. Thanks to OBD 2 it's to your major benifit. Your VR6 Eurovan will outlast any vanagon by a few 100K. Enjoy your wonderfully engineerd van.
