Brian; While giving our 85 a once over, before going on a 1000 mile trip, I found the same leak. Much to my dismay I settled upon the most likely culprit; the oil seal was leaking. I came to this conclusion since there was evidence of oil the entire diameter. This is due to oil leaking onto the back of the flywheel and being spun in every direction. As a last ditch effort I drained the synthetic oil and replaced it with regular oil.Synthetic oil has a reputation for causing seals to shrink. I also cleaned the oily area. I saw no more sign of seepage afterwards. The biggest problem here is oil contamination on the clutch disk. The clutch depends on friction to transfer power, oil's job is to reduce friction. To distinguish between the two oil just smell it. Gear oil has a bad smell, like old junk yards. Drive Safely & Good Luck Ken Lewis<Kernersville,NC>

(4 speed trans) It looks like engine oil. Is this a big deal that needs immediate attention? Is there a way to determine whether the oil is from the crank case or the gearbox? Any advice would be appreciated.
