I bought a used '80 Vanagon last October and actively went about getting it to
pass inspection back in May...which included finding a windshield
replacement...

The used windshield I got was $75 + another $75 for a new gasket and install at
a local auto glass place.  They wanted slightly less than $200 for the new one
with gasket and
installed.  Of course this assumes you can find someone willing to put used
glass in for you if you aren't doing it for yourself...in my case I saved $50.
around $200
