Dan-

If this is the ASKING price, $6,500 seems pretty fair to me. For a rough price idea, check out the Kelly Blue Book site (www.kbb.com).

For what it's worth, I just bought a 1984 Westy here in California for $6,000 even. It had 121,000 miles, BUT had LOADS of new stuff (from a VW dealer!) like: complete new cooling system, newer heads, new tires, new brakes, new clutch... It was equipped with A/C, stereo, & rear heat. The interior was in good condition, and the exterior was fair. The Kelly Blue Book value was $6,800.

There's another 1984 Westy with only 74,000 miles for sale in Reno, Nevada, but the owner is too vague (for my compulsive personality) about the condition (tires, brakes, etc.) and service history. However, he claims that it is in great condition (Right! ...and the check's in the mail...). He's asking something like $7,000, but it has been for sale all summer.
