Here's my plug for Conti belts, VW has been using them for 40+ years need I say more.

Here is another plug, VW in it's infernal assanineness has them made in 9.5X and 12.5X (mm) widths instead of the standard 10 and 13 any supllier will sell you, annoyed me a tad on my last set for a '90. the alternator belt was a tad hard to install. Truly annoying on a late Jetta or 4 cyl Passat which has a real short little belt down there for something, which forces you to remove the pulley to install a 10X belt instead of the 9.5, simply not enough adjustment in the driven part. The wider belts end up too short. It would be well to note that if you can't get the real VW widths (and you can't except from VWoA) buy the belts about 5-10mm longer, PARTICULARLY short belts, things in the 9.5X 800-900 range. I think some of the suppliers should take note of this and start selling more appropriate lengths.
