Subject: minor idle problem
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I've been working diligently to get my 89 Wolfsburg ready for our upcoming trip from Virginia to Santa Cruz, CA via Minnesota. New thermostat, new fuel hoses, new brake fluid, repacked CVs, and everything else I could think of

I finally got a chance to pull my throttle housing and clean it and the throttle switch up. I've had an ongoing coldstart stalling problem that seemed to be almost cleared up by the cleanup and setting the switch to 0.8mm as recommended by a post a while back. When I set the switch to the Bentley specified .05 to.1 mm gap, the problem seems to persist. Anybody know for sure whether the Bentley listed gap is correct? This seems like an awfully small gap. Could it be that my 10 year old switch just works better now with a larger gap?

One more question which I know is minor but just trying to get everything in top shape. I'm not sure whether this popped up after my recent work or not, but now most of the time after I drive around for a while my idle stays at about 100 RPMs higher than my normal 950 or so. sometimes it will come back down to 950 if I idle for a while. When I start the car it is always at 950. Any suggestions on what is causing this higher idle? All info is much appreciated.

Mark
