Hello Kai.

I'm running a vacum gauge from the line off the pressure regulator up to the dash. At idle I'm reading about 14 Hg as well. I found a similiar post from last year in the archives, also reading about 14 Hg at idle. Aside from being able to watch this gauge when driving, I also am experiencing problems with my 2.1, so this gauge gives me a little more info. My compression readings are similiar to yours. Carbon the most likely culprit since my oil consumption is pretty good. 1 litre every 2000 to 2500 km. At idle, my gauge needle flutters lightly, but does not move far, less than a digit.

I have been told that carbon build up around the valves is causing a bit of a miss. Possible sticking valve, also my lifters are suspect. Changed 5 of 8 of them. This helped some along with a pressurized carbon treatment. I still get an intermittent rough spot while hwy driving. Runs rich during extended hwy driving. It feels electrical, but I have checked each wire so many times, swapped ECU's, tried the magic cable, no change.

Recently I noticed that the charcoal filter valve behind the airbox has a sharp click when you feather the throttle. Never heard it before. I'm wondering if it is malfunctioning and the cause a of vacum leak. If it is, is the leak large enough to notice while idling or driving. I have a bit of a hesition, but not like what I have read on your postings. Until now, I have decided that a worn throttle body, and poor throttle switch adjustments cause my hesitation. Hope this helps.
