Need help diagnosing the dreaded overheating syndrome on my Westy. Have searched long and hard on the list archives and have got many good suggestions and fixes but still at a loss. Running the van for an hour or so at highway speeds, the guage registers to the left of the vertical and the red light is off. If you slow down for any reason the temp goes up. After driving at lower speeds or idling for a while , the red light goes on, and the temp guage goes all the way to the right. After a while it will go back down and then back up after another while. At this point the guage and light are erratic, even at highway speeds. After the van sits for a while and cools down, it will again go for an hour or so with the guage registering just to the left of vertical and the light off. We have replaced the coolant level sensor, flushed the cooling system, replaced the thermostat, and bled the system. We also bypassed the rear heater core , as it was leaking and appeared to be the source of air in the system and replaced the blleder valve in the engine comparment as it was crumbling apart. Sorry for posting this common prob. but we really are at our wits end and any and all advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike Kasun 83.5 Westy 115,000 miles Mike.Kasun@Entex.com
