But in actuality it did at least seem to make 1 as suceptible as 3 to problems. FWIW every higher (125k+) mile T4 I've seen is down about evenly compression wise on 1 and 3 say 1 and 3 at about 85-95 psi, 2 and 4 around 110-120, but the wierd thing, most that I have later torn down (admittedly only about 5 motors) have suffered a receded INTAKE not exhaust and usually on 1 not 3. Still I agree entirely the T4 and T3 for that matter oil cooler relocations don't seem apt to help that much as they feature restricted cooling to both cylinders on the 3,4 side but do not hit 3 alone. In a waterboxer, should be no favoritism, unless by the exhaust path lengths.
