Hello EV'rs and Vanagoneers:

We just returned from an 11,000 km trip in our 1995 5-speed, 5 cylinder Eurovan/Winnebago.

From Toronto, Ontario Canada west through the U.S. to Oregon, Washington, Southern B.C., Alberta, and return through Canada over Lake Superior. This was very similar to a trip done several years ago in our 1988 Westfalia.

Our mission was to pick up our new Tandem Two'sday bicycle from Green Gear in Eugene Oregon. (Great machine!).

Highlights included the Oregon Coast, Mt. St Helens, Waterton Lakes National Park, and the many friendly people we met and old friends we looked up.

As far as the camper goes... we loaded so much food into it before leaving (because of the feeble Canadian dollar we had resolved to spend as little as possible Stateside) that my wife christened it "The Great White Wanigan" (for any non-canoeists, a Wanigan is the food box you take on a canoe trip). The only maintenance performed during the trip was an oil and filter change in Seattle (Auburn VW - on a Saturday!).

The infamous Norcold (adapted with the high-elevation kit) worked splendidly on 12V, fabulously on 110V, and peripatetically on LP. Actually, to my chagrin, I think that most of the lighting problems I have experienced have been due to an inadequate supply of LP. Even though the burners perform merrily, there may not be enough LP for the fridge. So from now on, the slightest hint of yellow in burner flames will send me for a refill. (No, the levels LEDs did not report a shortage of gas - actually they showed 2/3 full).

Never exceeded 105 kph, but reached Oregon in exactly 48 hours!

Dan (whiteline fever) Herbert 1995 Eurovan Winnebago
