The highlight of my trip was when I casually > waved to a Westfalia > driver approaching from the other direction -- and > he waved back! > There's a strong sense among the short-wheelbase, top-comes-off Jeep owners (used to own a Wrangler) that waving to your fellow Jeepers was not just a nice thing to do, but a way of paying homage to the vehicle you were driving. Generally, it fell to the owner of the newer Jeep to initiate the "Jeep wave," and the owner of the older Jeep could wave back or just nod in acknowledgement.

I've tried to do the "wave" to other Vanagons while driving around town but haven't gotten a "reply" yet. Is there a "Transporter Wave" out there I haven't witnessed yet? If there isn't, I think it falls to us listees (listers?) to get one going. The same rules would apply where the owners of Vanagon would have to initiate the wave to Type 2s; EuroVans would start the wave to Vanagons; passanger vans would wave to Westies of the same year (the model heirarchy applies as well as year heirarchy). We'd have to spread the word to the Type2 list as well.

Let me know if you think this exists already, partially, or not at all. == Mike Harrnacker 89 Weekender "Nameles" 91 Golf http://ruralinstitute.umt.edu/vwbus _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
