Well, having been struck with the dreaded Head Gasket problem I am about to pull the right head and see the extent of the destruction. I have heard that if the pitting is "not too bad" it can be filled in with JB Weld. The trouble is that I have little idea of what constitutes "not too bad". Can anyone paint me a picture?

Is JB Weld the best for this kind of thing or is there something better out there?

The Bentley says to use several sealents when putting on the gaskets. The Haynes says to use these same sealents or the "equivelent". I called the local VW dealer and read them the stock numbers. The only one they had a reference to cost $50.00(!!!) so I am looking for the "equivelent". What are they?

Any help is much appreciated
