Horsepower,maybe no-the TDI has the same HP as a 1.8 GTI-but don't think of 'racing' a TDI,as the torque,the real important number when it comes to moving a brick-shaped vehicle down the road,is 50% MORE in the TDI.Add the available chip change,or even better,a euro-spec 110HP TDI with the chip mods(140 HP!!!),and you have a REAL hard-pulling Vanagon! Now if you could find an old Callaway Turbo kit for your 1.8 GTI.........(180HP would be nice!) Have fun,and remember,Vanagons are not designed to 'race'-save that talk for the track,and a more suitable car! (OMHO) Karl ~ |
