hey everyone,

I need help from the list as quickly as possible. Last night my wife and I went and looked at an '87 GL Syncro. The guy is asking $2900.00 but will take $1900.00 because that's what he owes on his loan!!!!! Okay, so I'm thinking that for $1900 bucks I can be alot less critical. Anyway we check it out and here are my concerns:

It's really hard to get from reverse to first. the owner say's that the "forks" are out of alignment and that they can be adjusted easily. Is that true or is this a sign of a tranny job?

The tachometer doesn't work, but he says that a mechanic (he said the "boy at the shop") messed up some wire inside the dashcover over the gauges?

The steering wheel isn't straight when the wheels are.

He also told me that the clutch has maybe 2k miles on it, but as i drove it i noticed the engagement is literally about an inch off the floor-clutch pedal adjustment?

He has redone the back brakes, rotors and all, but I noticed a slight "bobbing" when coming to a stop.

lastly, the engine sounds loud(exhaust-wise) but I really couldn't see and holes in the muffler itself-manifold leak? of course it was dark outside by this time.

Other than those items the bus was in great shape-immaculate interior, new tires, 110k, new front CV's, new rear bearings, good paint, and no obvious sign of head leakage(that I could see in the dark)

So, for $1900.00 do I take a chance? Please lend me your expert advice on any of these items. You have my sincerest thanks in advance.

Tony '87 GL poss. '87 GL Syncro
