I just noticed that the power steering hoses in my Vanagon - the metal lines on the right side of the engine compartment were very corroded. I took notice of them because the metal lines on my Toy*#!a truck were dripping a lot of fluid - had to top it off daily. So I called the dealer parts counter to get a price - $369 - OUCH! I figured that a high pressure rubber line should work. I measured it, and sized the fittings, and went to a farm implements shop. They made up one for me and pressed on the fittings in 10 minutes. I also bought the low pressure line. Both cost me $53 So now I know what to do when those long lines in my Vanagon die. I bet they could make AC hoses too. They had "tons" of various sized hoses and racks of fittings.
