Hi, All-
Now that the dust has settled, it looks like we have THREE confirmed
vehicles/families heading to Frenchglen: Sallye & Pete Clark, Lisa & Jim
Arnott, and me.
Additionally, there are two other individuals who MIGHT be there (Richard
Angelini and Mark McCulley) and an indeterminate number of WetWesties
could show up according to Cris Torlasco (see his response below).
What do you think? Should we still plan on this trip?

Post Scriptum:
I'm afraid that my silly flame wars on the Vanagon listserv (with idiots
- including ME, I might add!) might have dampened the enthusiasm for this
trip. (BTW, looks like I've been kicked off the Vanagon list! Oh, well,
in the immortal words of Groucho Marx: "I'm not sure that I want to
belong to any organization that would have ME as a member!")
Volks who said that they'd be there:
************************************
Sallye & Pete Clark * Loon Lake, WA * 87 Westy:
"going to try and make it on either Fri night or Sat around mid day.
Hope to see you all there,"
Lisa & Jim Arnott * Union, OR * 77 ASI Riviera II:
"We ARE planning to be there."
Volks who MIGHT be there:
*************************
Richard Angelini * Reno, NV * 85 Westy:
"Boy you sure can pick an out of the way place! Frenchglen huh? I'm
here in Reno and pondering the trip, no decisions yet."
Mark McCulley:
"This is a very cool place, been there 3 times in the past year. One of my
favorite experiences was to drive a few miles out onto the Alvord Desert
and spend the night. One of the best camping spots I've ever had no doubt!
Another nice area that's relatively nearby is Leslie Gulch."
Volks who will NOT be there:
****************************
Dale Mueller * Klamath Falls, OR * 73 Transporter:
"Sounds like a great idea. I can't make it this year but sure would be
interested another time. Best of luck with the venture."
Capt. Michael P. Soehnlein:
"Appreciate the invite, but last minute isn't in my vocabulary."
Angela & Jeff Stroh * Chico, CA:
"School has started, and we will not be taking any road trips for now."
Frank aka Mr. Bubble Head:
"Well, gang, I finally unfolded my tattered old Oregon map and looked
Frenchglen up. You weren't kidding when you said the middle of nowhere!
I'm afraid my little family and I are going to sit this one out."
Todd Hill, VolksWerks Transaxles * Olympia, WA:
"I will not be able to attend as I am self-employed doing VW transaxles
and this is my busy season. Sounds like fun though!"
Jed * Hollywood * 1970 Westy:
"Thanks for sending the links to Southeast Oregon. Wow!! So beautiful.
I had never seen that area before. I am pretty sure I won't be driving
up for the gathering, but I wish I were."
Barbara Sutton/Cris Torlasco * Eugene, OR * 91 Westy "Fafner":
"Man, this sounds good... I will include all the event information in
the WetWesties' Website ASAP, and I am sure you'll get a pretty large
group from our side (The WetWestians). I can't believe I won't be in OR
by then; I have already scheduled my vacations and will be in Colorado by
that date.
Anyway, I hope this will be a success and will become a yearly event, so
I can start planning for '99..."
