Subject: replacing ignition switch fixes coolant warning light
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I replaced my ignition switch over the weekend and it fixed the problem I was having with the coolant warning light sometimes not going out after starting the engine. Apparently there was enough of a voltage drop in the +12V coming out of the switch (the two black wires) that the coolant warning circuit was malfunctioning.

The moral of this posting is a worn out ignition switch can cause problems other than starting problems. Replacing the ignition switch is a cheap (about $8.50 from Camelback) and relatively easy (about an hour or so) fix.
