Volks... Regarding trouble free journeys-well, not exactly trouble free, but quite enjoyable. We spent 2 weeks travelling and camping from Salt Lake to: Jackson, Wyoming, thence Yellowstone, Bozeman, MT, Missoula, MT, the Flathead Lake area of Montana (absolutely splendid) and Glacier Park. Put about 2,000 miles on Vic (our '90 syncro westy), and countless miles on our feet and bicycles.

Vic did start to have some trouble, about which I was quite concerned: he began not liking to start from a stop once warm, then began to lose power. I had all sorts of nightmares about Digifants, ECUs, catalytic converters, etc...FOund a great shop in Bozeman, Montana (Auto Stop, ask for Randy -details to be posted on Karl's shop list). They discovered that it was merely timing -somehow the timing had gotten way, way off. Several hours and only a few dollars later, we were on our way. No more problems!!

We had 4 bikes on the back on a Yakima rack. The rack used Q41 clips, and was attached to the tailgate. We had 4 fork mount bike attachments, and used a cable lock. Worked like a charm. Also had a Yakima "space booster" box on the top, lightly loaded. Still, it was very difficult to raise and lower the pop-top (usually needed both of us). I mounted the rain gutters without detaching the canvas, no ill effects-just clamp a block of wood behind the poptop.

Well, summer vacation's over, now back to work... John
