Subject: temp gauge

My temperature gauge on my 84 westy has been acting funny the last few days and I'm starting to worry a little bit.

normally the gauge (when the van is warm) sits just to the left of the danger light and if things are warm, maybe a bit to the right of it. lately, the gauge is sitting inside the box on the far left of the gauge. so i'm thinking either the gauge isn't working correctly, or something is screwed up. could someone tell me how to check?

thanks for any help in advance

blake (84 westy, salt lake city)
