MoS2 stands for molybdenum di-sulfide. MoS2 grease is a
petroleum base grease with molydbdenum in the form of
di-sulfde mixed into it.  Molybdenum (chemical symbol Mo)
is the slickest mineral know to man!.  It is mined in Climax,
Colorado (no I didn't make this up!) and in Siberia.  The use
of Mo in lubrication is because being a very hard metal it
keeps its slipperiness under extreme temperature and
pressure.  It is thus used a lot in the space program and in
aviation. It is considered a stragetic metal (the other ones
being platinum and paladium.)  For autos, it is used in CV
joints and other high stress and high temperature areas like
wheel bearings etc.  You can identify MoS2 grease by its
color.. it's shiny silvery black color.  You can buy it in most
autos supply stores if you ask for moly grease.

I know.. this is more than you ever want to know about MoS2
grease..
