Hmm.. I don't know.. but it is certainly possible.  

My understanding is that Chevron, Amoco, Exxon, Standard, Esso were all once part of the all powerful Standard Oil owned by J.D. Rockefeller.  It's been broken up and the US market was divided into territories not unlike the 1984 breakup of AT&T into baby-bells.  So, where there is no Chevron, there may be an Esso or Amoco. In the years since the breakup, the different companies have gone their own way and have spawn different products and markets.. unlike the baby-bells which are similar and are comming back together again..

And just to be Vanagon relevant for formality sake.. Techron does my Vanagon good.. I can feel the difference after I poured a can in.. but on the other hand with the age of my engine, anything will make a difference!!!
