Very interesting...

This past winter (not very cold in NJ) I found that my sliding door would close very nicely (with one hand!) when the temp was 50 deg. F or above.

But when the temp would dip into the 40s it would never close easily. It would always require two ahands (one front, one pressing at the rear) to close.

I didn't know VW had installed bi-metalic doors.

Mine wouldn't catch because the nylon block on the top front door slider was badly worn. I turned it 90 degrees so the worn side wasn't being used and the catch worked fine. The worn block allowed the door to lean out to far to catch.
