Hi guys,

Well I pick up my Transporter from my mechanics today.Turns out the other head was cracked as well, althought not yet leaking coolant. Just as well I'd already given the go-ahead to do both heads while it is in the shop, otherwise I'd probably have been back again inside a month.Spring is here in the southern hemisphere and it's warming up! The good news was that no head studs were broken or corroded so the regular coolant changes counted for something anyway...

The final bill (incl the major service it was due for) $2340.60 Aus,which with current exchange rates works out at about $1404 US.Thank goodness my Oettinger fog lights haven't yet cleared customs.

I still love T3's but my confidence in the Wasserboxer engine has been a bit shaken. My aircooled fleet have never given me that sort of grief.

Just thought I'd post this given the recent discussion on whether a Vanagon is the correct vehicle for some people. They're great vans but then nothing good comes cheap...

Have a good weekend volks,I'm going to have one that doesn't involve spending any more money...

Cheers,

Steve O. Blue Mountains NSW '92 Transporter WBX '76 Crew Cab '68 Beetle Deluxe

PS.If anyone is interested in a post-mortem of where exactly the heads failed, lemme know as I will see them this afternoon.
