The center seat is attached to a pair of rails mounted on the floor. You remove the seat by removing four bolts and sliding the seat out. You may have to remove the carpet and padding in order to do this.

I have installed the center seat backwards and it works ok for children. When mounted backwards there is not much leg room between the back and middle seats so it is a bit tight for adults. The children, however, like it alot.
